The aim of this project was to design a welcoming garden that would serve as a beautiful backdrop for this Italian-inspired home. The property spans an impressive 3 acres and features a swimming pool, an outdoor fireplace, and a dining area, along with a lush backyard that is bordered by evergreen trees.
We began the project by assessing the space for quality of light and natural color. We decided that a palette of cooler hues would compliment the house's exterior and the surrounding landscape.
Per the client's request, we packed the garden with low-maintenance, drought-tolerant pollinator plants such as agastache and nepeta. We also scattered native grasses into the background to give the garden a slightly natural feel while still retaining a clean, stylized look.
The outcome is exceptional. No fewer than a dozen species of bees, butterflies, and moths source nectar from the planting. As for the garden itself, it blends seamlessly into the existing landscape. Each morning, it comes to life like a slowly developing photograph. By midday, the purple hues stand out. By dusk, the hues deepen to the point where the garden looks as if it is glowing.
